We love because he first loved us. 1 john 4:19

During our first married Thanksgiving my sweet husband introduced me to this delicious “side dish”! He grew up with apples and cranberries every holiday and I could not believe I had never heard of it. I quickly converted the family recipe to gluten and dairy free, because I LOVE cranberry season. I like to think of this more as a dessert to put ice cream on top of, however it makes for a tasty, sweet side on a big Thanksgiving dinner plate. The sweetness from the apples and tartness from the cranberries along with the added sugar are sure to be a crowd pleaser on your holiday table! I know it’ll never be missing from our table!
Thanksgiving day is full of complicated recipes and loads of time in the kitchen, but this recipe is perfect to throw in the oven while you’re preparing your turkey! It takes all of 15 minutes to throw together and about an hour to bake. It’s an easy recipe packed full of sugar and flavor that won’t take up too much of your time in the kitchen on Thanksgiving.
alternatives
If you happen to run out of GF all purpose flour on Thanksgiving day and no stores are open you can always use GF oat flour or GF brown rice flour. If you’re making this outside of the holiday window and you can’t find cranberries to save your life just pick up some craisins and let them soak in hot water for 20-30 minutes to rehydrate and continue on with the recipe! If you or a family member also has an allergy to pecans, don’t hesitate to use sliced almonds for a nice crunch!

steps
Prep work is always my least favorite part but if you have an apple spiralizer then you’re in luck! If not….you might just be spending some time peeling and chopping the apples. After prepping the apples all you have to do is mix the apples, sugar and cranberries! I like to add a hint of cinnamon, but don’t tell my husband! He’s my favorite traditionalist!
Next you’ll want to make the oat/nut topping! The nuts are completely optional if you have nut allergies, but wow oh wow the pecans are such a nice warm flavor to add to the crumble. All it takes is melting some dairy free butter with GF rolled oats and loads of sugar and a touch of gf flour and you’re set!
Bake it for close to an hour at 350 degrees and this will be your new favorite thanksgiving side! Or when eating leftovers i love to put a scoop of ice cream on top for dessert!
