Brownies

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20

the guilty pleasure of the mclean household…we love brownies! I remember as a little one, my mom making a large pan of brownies and we’d always sneak a small bite each time we walked by. this is why i love dessert and why i love recreating these childhood memories into treats my tummy can handle. Now, we make a homemade dairy free ice cream with the ninja creami and top it with some homemade caramel that i’m still experimenting with! This is true decadence, but also so simple! I can’t wait for this recipe to become a staple in your family!

brownies are so versatile! I can’t wait to share how i change this recipe up for more flair and more decadence. i truly don’t think there’s anything better than a warm brownie fresh out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream on top. I actually have to set a 10 minute timer after they come out of the oven, because my husband can’t wait to have one. i prefer a gooey brownie, but i know not everyone loves that and prefers a cakey brownie! Just cook it a few minutes longer!

alternatives

if you have read any of my other posts you know how much i love pairing sorghum flour with chocolate flavored baked goods. It has a rich flavor that enhances the chocolate flavor just like espresso can cause a deeper chocolate flavor. However, if you don’t have sorghum on hand, just use GF AP flour to complete the recipe. If you’re out of brown sugar just use regular and vice versa!

steps

this is the easiest recipe i’ll probably ever post! these brownies are so simple and remind me so much of my childhood. Preheat that oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×9 or 8×8 square pan. These take a while to bake but are so thick and gooey!

combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl, including sugar, brown sugar, GF AP flour, Sorghum flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and mini chocolate chips. Make sure you whisk until well incorporated.

Add the egg, veggie oil and water and just whisk until combined. You don’t need to whisk brownie batter for long! this keeps them fudgier.

Bake it for 45-50 at 350 degrees and this will be your new favorite brownie treat!
